It all started over 9 years ago when I received my first pet as a birthday gift from my wife. I became a proud pet parent of a cute Jack Russell Terrier puppy named Gator. In true puppy fashion, Gator was slightly mischievous, had more energy than I could ever imagine and loved to run and play.

We lived on a busy road. Every time I took Gator outside, he was on a leash or a tie out. The leash was an absolute necessity, and was not fun for either of us. Once we had Gator for a few weeks, we purchased a long tie out for our backyard. The tie out gave Gator some freedom; however his tie was constantly getting wrapped around trees and shrubs in our backyard. We had to look at other options. At first we thought we would install a traditional fence. We secured a few quotes and were shocked at how expensive a fence was. My wife was doing some research online, and saw several websites advertising electric dog fences. The concept seemed ideal for us. The electric fences were reasonably priced, seemed easy to install, and allowed us not to lose our view of the open space adjacent to our yard. I had very little knowledge of this type of fence.
